Grimsargh St. Michael's C of E Primary School

 

Guided by our vision of ‘inspiring, achieving and believing in a loving Christian community’, pupils continued to grow in faith throughout the summer term. Through worship, church visits, celebration and reflection, children explored the Christian journey from Easter to Ascension and Pentecost, deepening their understanding of Christian belief and recognising how faith inspires hope, service and flourishing.

 

Easter Journey: The Paschal Candle

As part of their Religious Education learning, Year 2 visited St Michael’s Church to learn about the significance of the Paschal Candle.

Through exploring this important Easter symbol, pupils developed their understanding of Jesus as the Light of the World and reflected on the hope and new life at the heart of the resurrection story. The visit encouraged spiritual reflection and strengthened connections between school, church and worship.

Year 2 Easter Unit: Exploring the Cross

Through worship and Religious Education, Year 2 explored the meaning and symbolism of the cross within Christianity.

Pupils reflected on themes of sacrifice, forgiveness, love and salvation, deepening their understanding of why the cross remains central to Christian faith today.

Ascension Worship

Pupils gathered with Reverend Andy to explore the story of Jesus’ Ascension and reflect on His promise to remain with His followers.

Through worship, prayer and discussion, children considered what it means to trust God during times of change and uncertainty. Pupils reflected on how they can continue to let their light shine and share God’s love within school, the local community and the wider world.

Pentecost Worship

Our Pentecost worship helped pupils explore the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church.

Reverend Andy brought the Bible story to life in a memorable and engaging way, using a drone to illustrate the movement and power of the Holy Spirit. This creative approach inspired awe and wonder, helping pupils deepen their understanding of how the Holy Spirit gives Christians courage, guidance and strength.

“They were all filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:4)

Prayer and Reflection

Throughout the term, pupils continued to lead and participate in collective worship through prayer, readings and reflection. Opportunities for pupil leadership enabled children to develop confidence, empathy and a growing understanding of how faith can guide everyday choices and actions.

Celebrating Faith and Achievement

As the academic year drew to a close, our worship focused on thanksgiving, reflection and celebration.

Children looked back on their journey throughout the year, recognising how they had grown academically, spiritually and personally while living out our Christian vision and values.

End of Key Stage 1 Worship

During a special act of worship, we celebrated the achievements and contributions of our Year 2 pupils as they prepared for the next stage of their learning journey.

Pupils reflected on the experiences, friendships and opportunities that had helped them grow in confidence, resilience and faith during their time in Key Stage 1.

End of Key Stage 2 Worship

Our Year 6 pupils led a meaningful service of thanksgiving and reflection as they prepared to move on to secondary school.

Through prayers, readings and personal reflections, pupils celebrated their time at St Michael’s and considered how they can continue to let their light shine in the future. The service provided an opportunity to give thanks for their journey and God’s guidance throughout their primary years.

Christian Values Awards

As part of our end-of-year worship, pupils were recognised for consistently living out our Christian values.

These awards celebrated children who demonstrate kindness, compassion, perseverance, respect and service to others, reflecting our vision in their daily lives and inspiring those around them to flourish.

Leavers’ Service and Presentation of Bibles

At our Leavers’ Service, Year 6 pupils gathered with families, staff, governors and members of St Michael’s Church to mark the end of their primary school journey.

As a lasting reminder of their time within our church school family, each pupil was presented with a Bible from St Michael’s Church. This special gift symbolises our strong partnership with the church and encourages pupils to continue exploring faith, wisdom and Christian values as they embark on the next stage of their education.

 

Through worship during the summer term, pupils have:

• Deepened their understanding of Christian symbols, beliefs and traditions.
• Explored the Christian journey from Easter to Pentecost.
• Reflected on themes of hope, forgiveness, service and new life.
• Developed a greater understanding of the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church.
• Strengthened relationships between school, church and community.
• Developed confidence through leading prayer, worship and reflection.
• Celebrated individual and collective achievements within a Christian community.
