Year 1 W/B 4.1.21

Home Learning: 6th-8th January 2021

Good morning!

I enjoyed meeting you all on Monday, but we didn’t really get chance to know each other, so on Seesaw is a little video all about me! I’m really sad that we aren’t going to be spending time together as a whole class for a little while now, but I’ll be posting lots of activities for you to complete while you’re staying safe at home.

Each week, I will post the tasks for the week ahead. These will include an English and a Maths lesson/task for every day along with a Physical Activity idea, and there will also be another subject lesson/task each day. I will continue to follow our plans for the half term, as we would if we were in class, and those children who are attending school will be doing the same work in class so everyone will be working along at the same pace.

Below, you will find the tasks for the rest of this week. Try your best to get through them, and upload what you can via Seesaw.

Parents, if you’re having any problems, let me know and I’ll see what I can do to help. I’m really looking forward to my time in Year One, despite the tricky start to the term that we’re experiencing.

Wednesday 6.1.21

This week, we will recap some of our sound families which we have worked so hard on in Autumn term.

Watch the video below to recap our ‘ai’ family, including the graphemes – ay, a and a-e.

Thursday 7.1.21

Watch the video below to recap our ‘ee’ family, including the graphemes – ea, e and e-e.

Friday 8.1.21

Watch the video below to recap our ‘oo’ family, including the graphemes – u, ue, u-e.

English-

On Monday, we began some work based on the story Zog by Julia Donaldson. The tasks for the remainder of the week follow on from this work-

You can complete the tasks on a piece of paper or in an exercise book. Take a photograph and upload to your Seesaw journal.

Wednesday-

Enjoy the beginning of the story Zog. (See Video on Seesaw)

After you have listened to this, think about the main character- Zog.

What does he look like? Where does he live?

Looking at the picture and using what you know about Zog, write a sentence to describe him that includes the word ‘and’

Here is an example- Zog is orange and he can fly.

You might want to write more than one sentence to describe Zog, but make sure all your sentences include the word ‘and’. Draw a picture of Zog to go with your writing and use the correct colours.

Thursday-

Listen to the next part of the story. (See video on Seesaw)

Can you write a list of the characters in the story? Try this without using the pictures from the story, then check to see how many you remembered!

Remember that when we write a list, we write each ‘thing’ on the list on a new line, so for this task, write on a new line for each character you can remember. Don’t forget that names must begin with a capital letter.

Friday-

You can watch the BBC film of Zog here- https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bwdw8y/zog

Pause the film at 4.35 seconds. What do you think happens next? Talk about this with a sibling or grown up if you can.

Write a sentence or two, beginning  ‘I think that…’ See if you can include the word ‘and’ in your sentence(s) too.

Now sit back and enjoy the rest of the film!

Maths

For each day, watch the video then complete the task. Upload what you have done to your Seesaw journal and I’ll have a look at how you have got on and give you some feedback too.

(You can print the task to complete, use a device to ‘write’ on the downloaded version or write down your work/answers on a piece of paper or in an exercise book)

Physical Activity

It’s important to spend time each day keeping active- Here are some challenges for you, one for each day. I’m going to have a go at these too!

Wednesday- Enjoy a Go Noodle dance- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhfkYzUwYFk&safe=active

Thursday- Go for a walk and count 100 steps forwards and if you’re brave, walk 100 steps backwards! Jump as you count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and jump backwards when you count them backwards.

Friday- Here is a yoga session based on the story Zog- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fk4YqiTFBZs

Wider Curriculum-

PSHE-

I would like you to do the same as I have done- create a short video clip telling me your name and some of your favourite things and upload it to your journal on Seesaw. You might also have some questions for me too- you can ask these in your videos and I will answer them.

Science-

This half term, we are going to investigate plants.

A question for you – What does a plant look like and what are the main parts?

Have a look at this- https://www.bbc.com/bitesize/articles/z3wpsbk You could also complete the quiz!

Task-

Can you draw a plant/flower and label it?

Make sure you include these parts- stem, leaf, petal

DT- Have a look at the activity on Seesaw
