Reception British Science Week W/B 22.03.21
This week we have been enjoying doing lots of science experiments in class for “British Science Week”, as well as talking about what a scientist looks like, what jobs scientists have, and even having a scientist guest speaker live on Zoom! Have a look at these pictures to see a snippet of what we’ve been up to…
We have investigated “floating” and “sinking” with different objects in our classroom!
We have explored using magnets, even putting the magnets under the tray to try and move the cars and balls around!
We have experimented with different colours in the water area to make science potions, as well as using bath bombs to make fizzy science experiments!
We have explored gravity outside using tubing, putting the tubes on an angle to see if we can make the cars go faster if the tubes are higher!
We have put our scientist heads on and created our own inventions of things that might help people! Here are some of the fantastic ideas…
We even had our very own special guest scientist on our screen on Wednesday – Mrs. Bromley, a real life nurse!! She showed us an examination, told us about her job and her uniform, told us about all of the tools she uses in her medical box and what she has to do each day! Then we made our own medical kits as if we were a nurse like her, remembering what was in her box for ideas, and looking in First Aid catalogues too!
We had some visitors to our classroom… some frogspawn!! We spoke about the life cycle of a frog, and enjoyed looking carefully at the frogspawn. We can’t wait to see them when they have grown into tadpoles and froglets after half term! 🙂
We enjoyed doing another experiment – this one using skittles and warm water! We were really excited to watch the “rainbow colours” move into the middle as the skittles reacted with the water.
